Brickfields district police chief Anuar Omar confirmed the arrest and remand of a 33-year-old man who verbally abused several individuals after being told to wear a face mask.
The incident took place on Sunday at a nasi lemak stall on Jalan Desa Bakti in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur. The stall is operated by the mother of Lyn, the girl who uploaded a video of the incident which went viral.
According to Lyn, the incident took place at around 10:30 am when her mother noticed that a customer was not wearing a face mask and asked him about it.
"Who the hell are you? You sell nasi lemak, just do your job!", was the customer's rude and angry reply. Another man, who happened to be a regular customer, intervened at this point in defence of the seller, but was met with a barrage of profanity-laced abuse.
"What do you wanna do? Call police ah? Call lah, f#cker. What are you waiting for? Your phone got no credit? Need me to buy you credit ah?", taunted the man, to which the other customer simply replied that it's okay.

"It's okay then f#ck off. Don't talk so much. F#ck off. Why the f#ck you still here, waiting waiting? You not happy with something is it? F#cker, you wanna kena whack this morning? Sunday morning you wanna kena whack ah?", replied the man while approaching the other customer in an aggressive and threatening manner.

The situation thankfully did not turn uglier as the other man left the scene to prevent any further escalation. However, a police report was subsequently lodged, which resulted to the arrest of the aggressor today.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Rule 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 for failing to comply with Covid-19 SOPs.
Social media users have identified the man as Shyamalan Jaganathan and have shared an older video of him screaming vulgarities at 2 ladies at his workplace, a gym which is currently closed due to the lockdown.
We hope Mr. Shyamalan enjoys nasi lemak in the police lockup and that he would rasa pedas!
