KUALA LUMPUR - Despite being fully vaccinated against Covid-19, four Malaysians succumbed to the disease, while 80 more died after receiving one inoculation, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Among the 12,993 cases of "breakthrough deaths" analysed, 80 had partial vaccination (0.6%) and four had full vaccination (0.03%), he said in a tweet.
In addition to the posting, the Department has received requests for granular statistics on Covid-19 deaths following vaccination, as reports of cases and transmission rates now outstrip the boundaries of Klang Valley, Johor, Penang and Sarawak.
Due to the rise in the number of Delta variant strains that have been sequenced over the past few weeks, experts have also requested data on the effectiveness of individual vaccines against this strain.
Experts have also argued that Malaysia needs the data to determine whether booster shots would be required to combat the Delta and other emerging variants.
